Having brought the Forest Rights Act into force on December 31, 2007, the Central Government on Tuesday notified the Rules for its operationalisation. The Act is essentially aimed at recognising and providing forest rights to Scheduled Tribes (ST) and other dwellers residing in forests for generations.

Witch hunting is a curse for Adivasis.

At the beginning of 2009, one more Adivasi woman was killed in the name of witch-hunting in Jharkhand. 45 year old Sukhmani Barla of Arhara village of Kamdara block near Ranchi was chopped by her neighbour Bagda Munda alleging her of being a witch. Bagda Munda's daughter Saniya Munda had been suffering from illness for last three years and finally she died on January 2.

HC dismisses plea against Tribal Christian's ST status.

The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday rejected the petitioners' plea that challenged the continuation of reservation and other privilege to Tribals who have converted to Christianity and other religions.
